The article cites statistics predicting that commodities such as gold and palladium could rise as much as 17 percent in the coming year, with one estimate from Goldman Sachs reportedly predicting a 17.5 percent average gain across 24 different commodities that could outpace expected gains in the Standard and Poor’s 500 Index.

“Demand is growing on a global basis. Commodities are a great place to be to gain exposure to the growth that’s coming out of emerging markets,” the article quoted Peter Sorrentino of Huntington Asset Advisors as saying.

I have always been searching for the best spot and I have discovered quite a few good spots for farming gold in LOTRO, but I never could decide which one is the best. The one I thought that was good enough for a casual player as well as for an experienced one is inside the great hall of Sarnur, near the entrance to Sarnur Keep. The dungeon is filled up with dwarves and cave-claws having around 1900 hit points, very easy to kill. The respawn rate is generated by the number of players inside the dungeon and you may encounter even instant pop at some points. Knowing all these, you could say “the more, the merrier” but you also need to be extra careful so you won’t die, to avoid high gear repair costs.

The most important drops that the mobs inside Sarnur Great Hall have within the loot table are the barter items from the dwarves, the Dourhand Crests and the First Age Relics, to be more specific, and the exceptional hides dropped by the cave-claws. Gold dealers saw their clients enjoy some of the best investment returns of the past decade, notes a recent report.

According to Bloomberg News, the last 10 years saw investors more than triple their returns, significantly outperforming those who chose to stay in the stock market. Specifically, a $100 gold investment at the start of the decade would have reportedly been worth $380 as it came to a close, while the same investment in the stock market would have lost $10.

“The fear of inflation is in the gold price. Commodities and oil show emerging markets emerging, and the rest is the developed markets submerging,” the report quoted Toby Nangle of Baring Investment Services as saying.

Stocks were especially hard hit over the past couple of years by a worldwide recession that claimed a number of corporate casualties while undermining overall confidence in the financial system and wiping out billions of dollars in investments.

With the economy recovering, gold remains a strong investment option because instead of just seeing it as a safe alternative to the stock market, it is also now in growing demand for industrial use and other applications in developing nations.  Read more...

Gold and silver dealers tend to watch inflation very closely because it is one economic indicator that has traditionally been seen as relevant to the price of their investments.

Current market conditions suggest that commodities like gold and silver are thriving even as inflation remains largely in check for the short term. The latest figures from the Commerce Department show that in November, the price index for personal consumption expenditures, not including food and energy, rose by a mere 0.1 percent margin.

A Wall Street Journal report this week cited an “ominous sign” from the Federal Reserve in the form of a separate report showing that U.S. industrial capacity had fallen 1 percent on a year-over-year basis. This was said to be the largest such annual drop in the 43 years that such statistics have been tracked.

The financial newspaper quoted Brian Bethune of IHS Global Insight as warning that as industrial capacity falls more, “the more likely we are to get bottlenecks when the economy picks up.”

Given the widespread perception that the recovery will be slow, fitful and potential a jobless one, investors who make gold and silver part of their portfolios may find themselves well-positioned to ride out any potential setbacks.  Read more...
